How to uninstall RTLright
You can remove RTLright at any time, free of charge, using macOS. No additional download or contact with support is required.
Remove the app
Turn off automatic startup
In RTLright, open Settings → General and turn off “Launch RTLright at login”. If you cannot open the app, use System Settings → General → Login Items (or Login Items & Extensions) and remove or disable RTLright.
Quit RTLright
Click the RTLright icon in the macOS menu bar and choose “Quit RTLright”. Closing the settings window alone does not quit the app. If it is unresponsive, open Activity Monitor, select RTLright and use Stop → Quit or Force Quit.
Move RTLright to the Trash
In Finder, open Applications, select RTLright.app and choose File → Move to Trash. If you installed it in your home folder, check that folder’s Applications directory too. Enter your Mac administrator credentials if macOS requests them. You can also delete the downloaded RTLright DMG and ZIP files if you no longer need them.
Remove its permissions
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security. In Accessibility and Input Monitoring, select RTLright and click the minus (−) button if available, or turn its switch off. Remove any old RTLright entry as well.
Finish removal
When you are ready to delete it permanently, empty the Trash after checking its other contents. If macOS says RTLright is in use, quit it first; if necessary, restart the Mac after disabling automatic startup and try again.
What happens after removal?
Once RTLright has quit, its keyboard shortcuts and temporary Shift-to-English behavior stop. After removal it no longer runs or checks for updates. Text and paragraph formatting already applied in your documents remain; use the editor’s normal direction or alignment controls to change them. RTLright does not install a browser extension or change your browser’s homepage or search engine.
License and saved data
Uninstalling does not automatically deactivate a license, request a refund or delete server records. To free a licensed computer slot, first open Settings → License → Remove license from this computer while online. This is optional and is not required to uninstall. Keep your license code if you plan to activate it elsewhere. Preferences and the Keychain license/trial record can remain for a later installation.
Optional local data cleanup
After quitting the app, use Finder → Go → Go to Folder to open ~/Library/Preferences and move com.rtlright.app.plist to the Trash if it exists. In ~/Library/Caches, remove only com.rtlright.app if present. For versions 0.13.0 and earlier, the corresponding name was io.gutman.GutmanRTL. In Keychain Access, search for com.rtlright.app.license.v1 and, for older installations, io.gutman.GutmanRTL.license.v1; delete only those RTLright items if you also want to remove the saved local license identity. This does not delete server records or free a license slot. Do not delete unrelated files or Keychain entries.
